If you look in the Middle School Handbook, you will find the Academic section and within that page, you will see Attendance, with the subtitles of Absence and Tardies, https://caj.ac.jp/info/index.php/Middle_School_Academic_Expectations. We make a distinction between Tardy (coming late to school) and Tardy unprepared (not finished homework, didn’t bring necessary materials etc).  This entry has been updated in the MS handbook to explain the distinction and be more clear.  You should see your child’s attendance and tardies on Knight’s Portal when you sign in.

You should be signing up for Parent/Teacher/Student conferences.  Teachers are already getting a schedule as you sign up.  If you have a teacher who teaches your child 3 different subjects, signing up for 2 blocks in a row is most likely fine.  If you are wondering about who you should sign up for, I highly recommend meeting the Bible, English, Social Studies, Science and Math teachers at a minimum.  I think it would be good also to meet the PE, Music and Language teachers also, especially if you do not know those teachers.

In Middle School, we strongly recommend that the student also come to the conferences.  It is one way we try to have students be responsible for their own learning.  They are a part of the conversation and hear what teachers share and can address some situations.  It is good for them to become aware of their learning.

You will have about 7 minutes with the teacher, so the time is quick.  To help you with preparation for the conferences, here are some resources:

This is a great time for parents, students and teachers to all meet together as a team to educate your child.  If the times do not work for you to sign up, please work on trying to connect with the teachers another time.

The cafeteria is now set up to sell snacks during lunchtime. Students will be able to purchase snacks by choosing them from the cabinet and they will have to input their student ID number into a number pad to charge it to their account.  Here are the general list of items they will be selling and their prices.

  • Cupcake or muffin 150 yen
  • Chocolate chip cookie 180 yen
  • Chocolate brownie 200 yen
  • Cinnamon Roll 200 yen
  • Toasted Wrap or Quesadilla 200 yen
  • Mozzarella & Pizza Sauce Pocket 250 yen
  • Korean Chicken Nibbles 300 yen

Please do be aware that there may be additional charges to the account because of selling snacks.  If you do not want your child to purchase snacks, have a conversation with you child.

I look forward to seeing many of you November 4 & 5!
