Second Harvest Japan Food Drive

The middle school student council is busy spearheading a food drive to help out Second Harvest Japan, an organization which distributes food to needy in Japan.   We will start collecting on March 3 and go through until Good FridayApril 3.   Our goal is to collect at least 500 kilograms to help out those who are in need at this point.  The middle school Stu Co will be working with a small high school “chat” group in taking the lead in this in the secondary division.  Elementary will also be  introduced to this and we are hoping that many families from all divisions in the school will take part.  This is a tangible way we can reach out to those in need around us.

Second Harvest tells us that any food that is sealed and unexpired will be acceptable. This may include cooking ingredients (such as sugar, salt, sauce, dressing, etc.).
No glass containers please.
The following are foods that are particularly needed:
  • rice and pasta
  • freeze dried foods
  • processed foods (canned goods, etc.)
  • instant foods, foods in ready-made packs
  • cooking supplies (miso, soy sauce, dash, etc.)
  • drinks (coffee, tea, juice, etc)
  • Coffee formula and tea bags are acceptable as long as they are still in a sealed package
(Unacceptable food items would be any packages that are open, homemade foods, or expired products.)
Donations of food may be taken to the atrium and placed with the display there.
Thanks for caring for others and helping us reach out to those around us in this way.
